Introduction
Progress
Higher Secondary School (PHSS) is a coeducational private
organization established by a group of enthusiastic scholars,
experts and educationalists with a view of meet in the needs
of our children. The Higher Secondary Program (10+2) in
Science, Management and Humanities of Progress is affiliated
with Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB). Progress is
dedicated and committed to promote high quality educational
programs. Progress provides career counseling for students
in supportive and caring environment for students.
We
aim at providing secondary school graduates with a solid
educational foundation enhancing their knowledge and skills.
The college gives them a great opportunity to be highly
competitive to secure their position in national and international
institutions. They learn to use wisdom, positive thinking,
self-discipline and self-integrity for pursuing a successful
career leading to a better life. Our faculties are dedicated
to provide the latest knowledge through scientific methods
of teaching learning for leading students to several career

The
professional team of scholars, educationists and consultants
running Progress Education Academy (PEA) and other top institutes
supports the college directly and educates students using
its expertise and decade-long experience on teaching, consultation
and management.
We
have also developed curriculum for Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering
classes. Studying these courses the students gain a thorough
grasp and extensive knowledge of the subjects which they
have to prepare for various competitive examinations it
instills in them the much needed confidence which makes
all the difference between success and failure.
We
make every attempt during the academic period to ensure
the regular classes and assignments and encourage student’s
own effort in studies so that every student can achieve
the objectives of study. However, if some students require
special assistance, extra tutorial classes are also arranged.
Besides,
a big sports complex, the surroundings with green vegetation
and the open space in college premises fulfill students'
recreational needs. Studying in the progress building, which
is a historical Rana Palace, gives the students an experience
of being in touch with ancient heritage of Nepal.

Curriculum
PHSS follows
the curriculum designed and prescribed by Higher Secondary
Education Board (HSEB), Nepal. This curriculum includes
languages, sciences, business management and humanities.

Besides,
we have designed additional courses in Health or Drawing
for medical and engineering entrance exams conducted by
Institute of Medicine (IOM) Maharajgunj, Ministry of Education
(MOE), Institute of Engineering (IOE) Pulchock, B. P. Koirala
Institute of Medical Sciences (BPKIHS) Dharan, Indian Embassy
(IE), and other embassies and institutions.

Progress
welcomes the applications from the students who hold or
are bout to receive their SLC or equivalent education from
an accredited High School.
Admission
criteria
The admission
procedure consists of an entrance examination conducted
by PHSS. To be eligible to appear in the examination, the
student should have a minimum score of 50% (for Management
and Humanities stream) and 60% (for Science stream) at SLC.
The entrance exam carries 100 marks with Science, Mathematics
and English subjects (for Science stream) and Mathematics,
English and General Knowledge subjects (for Management and
Humanities stream)
The students who have passed the entrance examination conducted
by PHSS are only eligible to get admission at PHSS on the
merit basis.
The admission committee carefully reviews all the applications
and score of entrance examinations and takes the decision.

Progress

Needy
or physically impaired students can get other need-based
scholarship. It is eligible for those students who have
poor family-economic status, internal migrants from remote
part of Nepal or son/daughter of martyr, etc. Management
board decides it.
Scholarships are provided per academic year based on SLC
result & Entrance Examination (Class XI) and Pre-Board
Examination & Board Examination (Class XII).
Examination/Assessment
There are four types of
students’ assessments: several weekly tests (WT), three
unit tests (UT), three terminal tests (TT), one Pre-Board
Test (PBT).
Unit Test/Periodical Test
There are provisions of several unit tests
or periodical tests. These tests emphasize the knowledge
in micro level and are important for further study, entrance
preparation, etc.
Terminal Tests
There are three terminal tests: first, second and third.
These tests are mandatory and important for all students.
The result of these tests is sent to the parents/guardians.
Based on the performance of students, we determine the mode
of further teaching, needs of personal counseling and extra
tutorial classes.
Final Test/Pre-Board Examination
This test evaluates the board aspirants’ level of knowledge,
their preparedness and eleventh hour recommendation to the
students. It is also important for all first year students
for determining second year scholarship scheme. It is very
similar test to that of Higher Secondary Education Board
Examination.
Attendance
A student must have a minimum of 90% attendance
to be eligible to appear for the final examination conducted
by HSEB. Any students failing to do so might not be eligible
in appearing to the exam.

Campus
location and environment
Progress
College is located at the peaceful, residential area of
Dobighat, Pulchok, near Damakal Chok, Lalitpur. The school
premises have greenery area of about 8 ropanies. The office
is running in historically important Rana building, while
the classrooms and laboratory are running in own constructed
buildings, which can accommodate all facilities required
for +2 students and staffs.

Library
Our library is an excellent resource center with a collection
of textbooks, reference books, journals, periodicals, magazines,
dailies, etc. The library is regularly updated with new
books and papers. The library allows the students to consult
and burrow books, journals, occasional papers and magazines
of wide range.
Laboratories
The college has well equipped modern and safe laboratories
for Biology, Physics and Chemistry. These labs have necessary
equipments required for students. Each student gets separate
facilities for conducting his/her experiment.
Internet facilities
PHSS has designed the additional computer courses and set
up an advanced computer laboratory to develop student’s
skills. Students are encouraged to use Internet resources.
There are 24-hour Internet facilities in the college.
Classrooms
Well-furnished, spacious Lecture Halls with various teaching
aids are PHSS’s pride. There are proper aeration, ventilation
and peaceful classrooms having adequate space for reading,
writing and interactions.
Student Support System
Student
Support System (3S) is another of our innovative systems
developed for poor students. The 3S is a group of bright
students of classes and faculty members. It is responsible
for upgrading of the knowledge, and extra tutorial classes
for needy and poor students. This system also provides an
opportunity to develop leadership within them.
Guest lecture series
We develop guest lecture series given by eminent scholars
of various fields. The guest speakers interact with students,
share experiences, give ideas, and motivate students to
develop self vision towards the world.
Personal guidance and counseling unit
Student counseling is another part of progress. It starts
before the students join the college and continue till they
leave the college. We have developed an effective system
of monitoring the progress of students. It is used to provide
appropriate guidance to guardians and students for his/her
betterment. We counsel them in every part of their life
including academic activities, career, etc. Our guidance
helps them to choose the right methods of learning or to
choose a right institution for further study.
Extracurricular
activities
Sports
PHSS occupies more than eight ropani land area and provides
enough space for indoor, outdoor recreational facilities:
the college has playgrounds for Basketball, Volleyball,
Chess, Table tennis, Badminton, and other outdoors and indoors
games. Students can also take part in other educational
and cultural activities like debate, quiz, poetry, essay,
music, dance and other competitions.

Study tour/site visit
PHSS also organizes several biological/industrial tour programs
as a part of education system. These programs basically
encourage the students to apply their theoretical knowledge
in practice. Students are taken for the visit botanical
gardens, national parks, pharmaceutical/chemical industries,
industrial area and other commercial organization to provide
exposure to their related field of study. Godawari, Phulchoki,
Shivapuri, Nagarkot, Dhulikhel, Chandragiri, Pharping, Chitlang,
Phisling, Dolalghat, Daman are other mostly visited sites
for studying biological and cultural diversity.
Hostel facilities
Separate girls and boys’ hostel are available at a reasonable
cost. There are well-furnished, beautiful buildings in peaceful
environment. They are close to the academic complex. Experienced
and qualified teachers provide extra tutorial classes for
hostel students. In addition to comfortable accommodation,
we also provide nutritive foods for good health and common
facilities like daily laundry, telephone, sports facilities,
etc.
Cafeteria
The college has a carefully managed cafeteria within its
premises. Students can have a great time with the soft beverages
and a variety of snacks. At the same time, they can interact
with friends and teachers.
Parking
Parking space for about twenty-five cars and a hundred motorcycles
is available at a time inside the premises of college.
Transportation
Progress has a reliable transportation facility from major
local bus stations of the valley in morning and daytime.
The buses are used for transportation of students, staffs
and are also used in biological excursion and industrial
tours.
